Two patent filing documents reveal that the company wants to use more camera sensors with better telephoto optical lenses. The sketches describe a design reminiscent of the “periscope technology” that some Android smartphone makers already have.

A good example is the Huawei P30 Pro, which offers users a 5x telephoto lens. To achieve this effect, the company used several separate sensors lined with a special lens.

Apple seems to be interested in the concept and has already registered a number of such camera systems. The company’s first patent describes five refractive lenses, while the second uses three similar components. Transferred to TechRadar.

The five-lens version offers the equivalent of a 35mm focal length in the range of 50 to 85mm. At the same time, in the other system, this value reaches 80-200mm, which is suitable for telephoto lenses.

Apple wants to use a horizontal layout of the components, which will further enhance the scaling capabilities of the iPhone 12. It should be noted that these are just some of the ideas the company is working on. but it looks like the camera of the smartphone will undergo major improvements.
