JOLED, a company designed by Japan Display, Panasonic, Sony and the Japanese state-owned investment fund Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), has completed the construction of the world’s first OLED display factory using print technology.

With the new OLED production method, materials are applied to the glass substrate in the same way as inkjet printing, explains Digitimes. JOLED claims that technology can reduce the cost of OLED screen production by 20-30%, because it does not require complex equipment like the vacuum spray method today – it uses vacuum chambers and precision metal masks.

OLED Display Printing Company was founded in Japan. Its plant will operate in 2020 with a monthly capacity of 20,000 pads measuring 1300×1500 mm.
Japanese manufacturers, led by Sony and Pioneer, began investing in the development of OLED technology as early as the 1990s.

Due to the high prices and the level of product deficiencies, most manufacturers have limited their projects in this area, which has allowed South Korean companies Samsung and LG Display to take the lead in the industry.
