DDoS attacks are increasing, becoming more complex

The biggest day of the week is Saturday, according to a DDoS study, attacks are becoming more complex and harder neutralized. DDoS intensity increased sharply in the first quarter of the year, according to research firm Kaspersky Laboratory Security Company.

In the period from January to March, DDoS attacks increased by 84% compared to the last quarter of 2018. Moreover, cyber attacks have become considerably longer – according to data, the average duration increased 4.21 times.

In addition, organizers of such attacks improve their practice, and DDoS attacks are becoming more complex and difficult to neutralize, according to Kaspersky Lab’s research. China remains the leader in the number of outbreak attacks. But most botnets used to organize DDoS attacks have been detected in the United States.

The peak of DDoS attacks in the first quarter was in mid-March, while the strongest month was January. Saturday is the most intense day of the week with regard to DDoS attacks, and Sunday – the toughest.

According to the analysis, the DDoS market is changing. Instead of network resources shut down by authorities for the sale of tools and services for cyber attacks, new ones appear. The attacks become longer and many organizations only carry out basic countermeasures that are insufficient.

It is difficult to predict whether the increase in DDoS attacks will continue, but it is certain that they will become more complex. The Kaspersky Lab advises organizations to prepare to cover DDoS attacks with increased complexity.
