TSMC started manufacturing second-generation 7-nm chips

Next year, the company will introduce 5-nanometer technology Based on 7 nm + technology in Taiwan, Apple 13 processors will be produced. The world’s largest chipmaker, Taiwan TSMC, launched 7-nanometer second-generation technology, report industrial sources.

It is the first production project of TSMC that uses ultraviolet (LV) lithography and a serious step in the race with its major competitors – Intel and Samsung.

Based on 7nm + technology in Taiwan, the Apple 13 processors will be produced for new models of the iPhone 2019 as well as for the Kirin 985 chipsets expected to build the leading Huawei Mate 30 smartphone.

TSMC is committed to the production of chips for Huawei despite sanctions which the government of Donald Trump imposed on a Chinese company. This year TSMC expects that 7-nanometer technology will take about a quarter of the chip-to-chip production.

By 2020, the company plans to transfer part of the production to the 5-nm technology process and to improve FinFET technology a year later, optimized for mobile and high-performance chips.

In addition, the existing TSMC research will soon begin production preparation for a 3-nanometer technological process.
