The first quarter of the year has traditionally been associated with weak sales of leading manufacturers. The trend also took place between January and March, when 58.5 million computers were shipped globally. This is a 4.6% drop, says Gartner’s latest report.
The largest computer manufacturers in the quarter are Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple, Asus and Acer. Interestingly, only three companies are increasing sales during this period, reports VentureBeat.
Fierce competition between Lenovo and HP continues to have a full effect, with a market share of 22.5% now and 21.9%, respectively. The situation will continue in the next quarter. Gartner says Lenovo has increased its sales by 6.9%, while for HP this figure is 0.8% and Dell up 1.5%.
Despite these positive results, the efficiency of the three companies is not good enough to offset the drop in sales of other major manufacturers: Apple (-2.5%), Asus (-7.3%) and Acer (-13.2%).
Sales decreased by more than 20% for all other manufacturers in the industry in the first three months of the year. It’s time to notice that figures in the IDC’s latest report are slightly different from Gartner, but they still point to the same trends.
The main reason for these processes is the lack of key hardware components, but they are also due to the fact that users are no longer so interested in desktops. We will barely see signs of stabilization before the end of 2019.
