After connecting the smartphone, the satellite will forward the signal to other satellites, which transmit it to the cellular tower of the terrestrial operator. According to Miller, satellites will use the same frequencies for communication as mobile carriers’ networks, while satellite operators are currently forced to seek permission to use certain frequencies.

Ubiquitlink plans to test its satellite prototype in the near future. Recently, the cargo ship Dragon delivered the apparatus to International Space Station (ISS). According to the plan, astronauts are expected to transfer the device to the Cygnus cargo ship, which went into orbit in April.

Next week, Cygnus will detach from the ISS and launch into a higher orbit to launch several satellites, including one Ubiquitlink unit. The company will then test the device on 2G and LTE networks.

A deadline for the Ubiquitlink project has not been announced, but Miller is optimistic about the cost of building the system – according to him, the project will fit within $ 1-2 billion.
