Xiaomi is one of the top five manufacturers of smartphones in the world with strong positions in the budget class. The company also developed its own mobile application called Guard Provider, which aims to ensure the reliability of its devices.

This software uses Avast, AVL and Tencent antivirus solutions to detect the presence of malware to protect users. Security experts, however, found that the security provider actually does the opposite.

It is important to note that the mobile application has been pre-installed on all new Xiaomi devices. A factor that means that many people are at risk of this unpleasant problem, reports AnroidAuthority.

Check Point specialists conducted a series of tests with the security guard and were surprised when they learned that the application received software updates through a suspicious HTTP connection. In this way, hackers can install malware.

However, they need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi connection to access devices. Emergency vulnerability offers different ways for others to have access to confidential data in Xiaomi’s smartphones.

Currently exposed to this risk are the company’s millions of devices, which are sold with a re-installed version of Guard Provider. For now, the only solution is to use alternative antivirus programs until the problem with the application is resolved.
