Microsoft plans to add an interesting feature in the next major update to Windows 10, which should be widely distributed to users this spring.

In the Windows 10 20H1 update (version 2004), applications such as Paint Graphics Editor and WordPad will become optional. Until now, they were an integral part of earlier versions of Windows, but users will now be able to remove them, Windows Latest reported.

Many Windows features are defaulted by default, but users can disable them via system settings. There is a special section for disabling – Optional Features where Paint and WordPad will now be available in addition to applications such as Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer 11.

After changing the settings, the applications will shut down, disappear from the Start menu and other places in the system. Each application consumes more than 6 MB of computer memory. Once restarted, applications will be removed from the system.

The feature is now available in test version 19041, which may also be a candidate for the final version. A release of Windows 10 20H1 for the general public is expected in April or May.
