Microsoft launched the Windows 10 On ARM initiative two years ago to allow us to use the ARM processor operating system. Chips from the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform are key to promoting the concept.

The company collaborates with manufacturers such as Asus, HP and Lenovo, who have already introduced laptops in this segment, which are promoted as “always online” and guarantee a long battery life.

Now we understand that the Red Hat organization is working hard to optimize one of the most popular Linux distributions, namely Fedora for ARM processors. This project is advanced and the first devices that will benefit from it will be based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processors.

The desire of Red Hat is to use the company’s other high-end chips in the future in the next generation of notebooks running Fedora Linux, reports on FossbBytes.

At this point, we have no further details about this project, but we will probably learn more about Red Hat plans in the coming weeks. It’s important to note that for now it’s Fedora, but if the concept wants users, we’ll probably see ARM laptops and other popular Linux distributions.

Devices will not only have an impressive battery life, but will be sold much cheaper than competing models of Windows.
