The international criminal police organization, better known as Interpol, together with Trend Micro, a Japanese cybersecurity company, conducted an operation to eliminate hidden miners in Asia.

According to a Trend Micro press release, within five months, law enforcement officers, experts from Interpol and the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) have identified more than 20 thousand routers infected with viruses for hidden mining of cryptocurrencies.

Attackers used the vulnerability in MicroTik routers, experts said.

According to Interpol, the operation was carried out in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Trend Micro claims that thanks to joint efforts, the number of infected devices has dropped by 78% by November.
