Intel will unveil new developments at CES 2020 in Las Vegas that improve laptop cooling by 25-30%. A number of manufacturers will display laptops using Intel Athena technology, which combines evaporation cameras and graphite sheets.

Traditionally, thermal modules are located in the section between the outside of the keyboard and the bottom panel, which houses the key components that produce heat.

But in Intel’s design, the traditional heat module is replaced by an evaporation chamber, and the graphite sheet associated with it is behind the screen area for better heat dissipation. The hinges have been redesigned so that graphite sheet passes through them.

The new cooling circuit removes fans and further reduces the thickness of laptops. Unlike long-used heat pipes, evaporation chambers may have an irregular shape, allowing better coverage of the heat source.

So far, the Intel Athena design is only suitable for laptops that open at 180 °. But hinge makers have already promised to provide the technology with 360 ° hinge threads, Digitimes reports.
