Visual security specialists warned of a new threat to Android device owners. Experiments allow them to detect a new malware called BeiTaAd that has already infected hundreds of apps on Google Play.

The affected program generates revenue for its creators to play advertisements on infected smartphones. Most users do not even know about BeiTaAd.

Lookout review reports have so far spread malware on at least 238 mobile apps on Google Play that have registered over 440 million installations. Almost credible evidence is how unpleasant the problem is of this figure.

Once the user installs a mobile application with VeeTaiAd, he will start watching pop-up ads in the Lockscreen menu and will play audio and video at arbitrarily selected times, reports ArsTechnica.

Some affected users claim that their devices can not be used normally due to VeeiTaiAd’s permanent messages. It’s even more unfortunate that most of them fail to uninstall the application.

All titles that distribute malware are developed by the Chinese company CooTek. Finally, we note that they are downloaded from Google, but still can be installed on consumer smartphones.
