Hackers are increasingly focusing on popular gaming sites. Akamai’s annual report reveals quite alarming trends in this segment.

Their research confirms that cyber-criminals committed 12 billion attacks on games sites in the last 17 months until March 2019. This is a record value that has been reported for a similar period of time.

The most common method of drilling online platform protection is the so-called. “SQL Injection (SQLi)”, which accounts for 65.1% of all attacks.

The second category of attacks is “Local File Inclusion (LFI)” responsible for 24.7% of cases, VentureBeat reports. Not surprisingly, the biggest hacking activity was observed during the holiday season at the end of last year.

The leading cause of interest in the gaming industry is the fact that cyber criminals can easily make purchases in the games themselves in real profits.

The other element of their strategy is related to the fact that gamers are ready to make payments and spend a lot of money. Despite the efforts of big names in this industry, most online gaming platforms on the Internet are not yet reliable enough.
