The Chinese company will take over part of the orders for the technology giant Huawei, according to MyDrives. This is SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation), which owns a modern chip manufacturing plant – SMIC South Factory.

Since 2015, SMIC has been working to introduce 14-nanometer FinFET technology, and in the second half of 2019, the factory began mass production of silicon wafers using this technology.

This achievement of SMIC did not go unnoticed. HiSilicon, a department of Huawei dedicated to developing single-chip systems (SoCs) and processors, has been transferred to SMIC contracts previously served by Taiwan’s TSMC.

There is no order quantity information so far, but 14 and 16 nanometric SoCs and processors (for servers, for example) are known to be mainly manufactured by TSMC, and have now been ported to SMIC.

SMIC itself is little known to the general public, but the company has already gained a reputation in its niche. For example, it produces 28-nanometer SoC chips from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 series.
