The network spread information that the Binance bitcoin exchange was allegedly hacked and “thousands of KYC data” of users were in one of the Telegram messenger groups.

The head of the exchange, Changpeng Zhao, has already commented on the situation, stressing that the incident is being investigated and more information will soon appear.

Zhao then retweeted a video with a brief explanation of the situation, which says that the data leaked to the network back in January.

According to representatives of the exchange, a certain “unidentified person threatened and terrorized” the company, demanding 300 BTC. Binance refused to cooperate with the blackmailer and he soon began to disseminate data on the network.

“First of all, when comparing this data with information in our system, inconsistencies were revealed. To date, no evidence has been provided that any photos with KYC data were obtained from Binance. These images do not contain a digital watermark, which is put by our system, ”said representatives of the popular exchange.

Binance also added that the security service of the exchange is diligently trying to determine the source of the images. For any information that helps to identify this person, the exchange is ready to offer a reward of up to 25 BTC.

Recall that in May Binance was subjected to a hacker attack, during which attackers brought out 7000 BTC. The losses were quickly and painlessly covered from the funds of the #SAFU fund created in the middle of last year.
